Blog product help or insight: Black Out Contacts Make for Great Cosplays
Black out lenses make the color in your eyes completely black. They do not cover your entire eye like the sclera lenses do but they cover the center part of the eye which blacks out any natural eye color. There are certain cosplays or costumes to use these black contacts in and certain ones to use the sclera in. We have posted a blog article that gives an idea of which lenses to use for which cosplays.
Regular black out lenses vs. Sclera lenses
There are 2 main attributes that separate these two types of lenses.
- Sclera lenses cover the entire eye when using them. These lenses leave no room of any other color to show fully blacking out your eyes. They look pretty creepy and used for many cosplays and Halloween costumes. Regular black out contacts only cover the middle of the eye where your natural eye color exists. Some cosplays or Halloween costumes actually only call for this much coverage. It really depends on why you are using the contacts to decide which ones to purchase.
- Price is the biggest difference between these two products. I could not find sclera lenses online or anywhere for cheaper than $80/pair. As you can see from our catalog the regular black outs are $22/pair making them more affordable especially when you have to buy the materials to make the rest of your costume. Most people go for the regular black outs due to budgeting. I will say if your character calls for a full black out eye you need to spend the extra money and go with the sclera lenses for the full effect you are trying to pull off.
You can also use these designs that call for another color along with black.
